Daemons

Introduction

Daemons are an umbrella of various monstrous creatures from across cultures. It may be used as an identity within alterhuman spaces, however it can be used simply for self-expression, or simply a stylistic choice. This is not a feitsh nor kink.

Daemons can include, but is not limited to - demons, devils, oni, vampires, kitsune, gumiho, etc. Daemons typically have horns (in the kitsune's case, typically lack horns) and have generally poor portrayals and representation as of 2025. Much like kemonomimi, daemons are real, but are starkly unknown about.

The vast majority of the information within this article is anecdotal; there hasn't been any academic studies as of yet. However, this article is intended to be as neutral and inclusive as possible, and will be updated when needed. If your identity or definition isn't included here, you are still just as valid as anybody else.

Description

Daemons are typically individuals whom are or appear more monstrous than that of typical humans. However, this doesn't inherently mean all daemons are malevolent; however they have typically poor representation in media due to common tropes, lack of diversity, lack of depth, among other reasons.

Most species that fall under the daemon umbrella typically have horns, though this is not always the case. For example, typical kitsune, gumiho, among other fox spirits, tend to lack horns entirely.

The above definition is a general description, not a diagnosis. By that, it means the definition is in no means official, and ultimately comes down to the individuals themselves. If your definition or version hasn't appeared, you are just as valid!

Misconceptions

Daemons aren't inherently evil, as it ultimately depends on the individual. Because of this, there can be hostile reactions to if one decides to come out or if one is outed.

There are often two tropes for daemons in fictional media - typically either purely malevolent, or sexualised beings. Neither trope is necessarily good in any regard, especially as most portrayals tend to lack depth or diversity. An example of further depth for such beings could arguably be Touhou Project, as it's incredibly diverse and shows generally much more than either trope.

Tropes can be seen towards actual daemons as well, hence they're harmful.
